ABOUT MEENJHAR

Meenjhar – an NGO started by the students of Rajmata Krishna Kumari Girls Public School, Jodhpur. The name ‘Meenjhar’ comes from the local dialect of Marward, Rajasthan. Meenjhar refers to the seeds of ‘Khejdi’ which defied the drought of 56 years and kept life in the desert of thar when everything dried. It represents hope and a struggle for survival. Started by the student council of RKKGPS, Meenjhar has grown to its membership of 240 students from RKKGPS, NIFT, Nirja Modi and several schools.

Meenjhar has collected funds from scholarships girls received from school and families and friends to achieve its mission and execute its vision.

Meenjhar has worked tirelessly for over two years and achieved the following:  

  1. Meenjhar volunteers have set up several water bodies in the villages near River Jojari and saved the lives of 40 black bucks in the last 18 months.  
  2. Meenjhar volunteers have helped at least 14 farmers set up poly house in the Bhadhadar  Sikar area.  
  3. With the help of local exporters, Meejhar has provided work to 56 ladies for more than 210 days per year at their home for weaving wooden chairs for the export market for retailers around the globe.  
  4. Meenjhar has made 9  health check-up camps at Kali Beri and Anganwa settlement and regularly works in the settlement school to educate the kids and be the big sister while helping the immigrants to naturalize by connecting them with government, empowered citizens and industries. Meenjhar volunteers regularly work with Shri Hindu Singh Sodha to help the immigrants.  
  5. Meenjhar is working with Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation to implement the Surya Ghar Yojana among tribal areas devoid of power for ages. Since the beginning of the scheme on Feb 15, 2025, Meenjhar has worked on 130 applications for the allotment of solar power panel 2KW.
