Issue & Root Cause

In the 1990s, the population of blackbucks in the region was robust, with over 3000 individuals thriving in their natural habitat. However, this number has now decreased alarmingly to around 300.
The primary cause of this decline is the contamination of water sources, particularly from the Jojari River. The river, once a lifeline for the local wildlife, has become heavily polluted, rendering its water unsuitable for consumption.

Action Taken

To combat this issue, MEENJHAR has created freshwater ponds for wildlife, specifically for blackbucks, to which all the members of the organisation donated 51000 from their savings or scholarships. These ponds are meticulously managed with the locals’ assistance to ensure that the water remains uncontaminated and safe for the animals.
